Sal:
"I love playing this show.
The story revisits March 2020, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, through the eyes of a struggling comedian who is obsessed with Dolly Parton. It’s both very touching and hilarious, which I believe is needed after all of the crazy things that have happened over the last few years.
The score is essentially a playlist of Dolly’s greatest hits, including 'Here You Come Again,' 'Two Doors Down,' '9 to 5', and 'Jolene,' so the music is amazing and so much fun to play. There are even a few spots where we really get to lay in and play as if we were in a rock band!
It’s an honor to be in the original Here You Come Again band and to play with such great musicians.
About my Barton drums.
Not too long ago, I noticed that a recording studio in Brooklyn was relocating and having an open studio sale. Everything needed to go, including these beautiful looking drum shells that caught my eye, which were made by a manufacturer that I was not familiar with, Barton. I did some homework on the company and decided to go to check out the shells.
After seeing them in person, I was sold, and the studio owner gave me a great deal.
Here You Come Again is the first gig that I am using them on. With a 22” kick, 13” rack tom, 16” floor tom, and 6.5” x 14” snare, I feel more like Gene Krupa or John Bonham sitting behind them than a show drummer. When I got the call for this gig, I was told that there would be moments where I needed really big tom sounds, so I figured that I’d better bring big drums. So far, I’ve gotten multiple compliments on how they sound, including from our show’s sound designer who said, 'Your drums are sexy as hell, and you sound great.'
I think the Barton drums have a professional sound and are priced to be a working musician's kit. They will most likely be my go-to kit for studio recording and for gigs that require bigger shells."
