Christian:

"My gig last night was with the Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra, a renowned touring group based out of Washington D.C., and dedicated to preserving and continuing the tradition of early American music.

We played a program featuring silent films with live orchestral accompaniment. The film stars included iconic personalities like Charlie Chaplin, Harold Lloyd, and Buster Keaton. Aside from playing several classic ragtime compositions in between the films, my main job was to provide Foley work for the various sound effects that would have been created during traditional Vaudeville and early film era presentations.

I used a large variety of modern and antique percussion instruments, and even some ordinary household items to imitate pratfalls, car chases, fight scenes, dance scenes, erratic movements, heavy machinery, animal noises, character dialogue, and everything in between. Of course, the chaos of it all called for the Miller Machine, which made the musical possibilities endless."
