Pippin - Jared Schonig
Jared Schonig's drum set setup for the Broadway revival of Pippin at the Music Box Theatre.
Jared's write-up and gear list below photos.
“I use a typical 5-piece drum set augmented with some standard percussive effects: splash cymbal, china cymbal, ratchet, temple block, cowbell, tambourine, mark tree, conga, and a Miller Machine with mounted triangle.
Our revival is enhanced by wonderful circus elements so, in addition to Pippin's classic rock and pop songs, several tunes have been arranged to include specific drum and percussion circus-style accompaniment. I was fortunate to be involved in the cast rehearsals leading up to the Broadway opening. The dance choreography from the pre-Broadway run at A.R.T. in Cambridge, Massachusetts was enhanced and in some instances completely revamped prior to the Broadway run.
Director Diane Paulus and choreographer Chet Walker are wonderfully creative and fostered an open working environment. The process was incredible. A lot of the choreography that was tweaked in cast rehearsals was translated in to the percussion book so that we (the percussionist Sean Ritenauer and I) could both breathe a little bit more. Sean came up with some great circus-style accompaniment in some of the crazier numbers.”
