Steve Jordan's "Casa Loco"

Steve Jordan's "Casa Loco"

[Download Link Below]

Steve Jordan's drum solo from the title track Casa Loco, from Steve Kahn’s band Eyewitness.

Album released in 1983.

Transcription published in Modern Drummer in 1989.

I transcribed this from a cassette, back before we had any digital options. I used old AA batteries so I could play the track back at a slower speed.

  • Steve Jordan on Drums
  • Steve Kahn on Guitar

  • Anthony Jackson on Bass

  • Manolo Badrena on Drums/Percussion/Vocals

Check out what Steve does in measures 16 thru 24, looks simple on paper, but sounds amazing in context.

I've included a recording of the entire track, one of the solo, and a pdf of the transcription.

Solo starts around 07:30.

Bonus:
A wonderful article written by Matt Phillips, with Steve Kahn talking about making this classic album.

Steve Khan talks about his classic 1983 album ‘Casa Loco’.

"The album is also totally unclassifiable – a ‘fusion’ band playing a blazing surf-rock cover tune (‘Penetration’)? An unhinged Puerto Rican percussionist singing in quasi-Spanish but sounding remarkably like Sting?"
